Julie Atkins

A Voice of Experience and Advocacy for Positive Change:

I am very pleased to be selected as the Green Party candidate for the Aylesbury constituency. With over two decades of experience in international publishing, I bring a wealth of knowledge and skills that uniquely position me to contribute to the progress and well-being of our community.

Experience That Matters:

As a senior manager within the academic publishing industry, I have spent over 20 years honing my skills in presentations, team motivation, and youth development in a global market. My journey includes training English Language Teaching (ELT) teachers, crafting blog articles, and spearheading marketing and sales activities. Through these experiences, I have fine-tuned my ability to tailor presentations to resonate with diverse audiences, ensuring that every member is engaged and informed.

Commitment to Sustainability and Equity:

I am proud to sit on working groups dedicated to sustainability and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in my professional capacity. In my current role, I championed the implementation of the 10,000 Black Interns (10KBI) program, contributing to the industry-wide effort to foster diversity and inclusion. Additionally, I have actively worked towards making publishing more sustainable by overseeing significant reductions in printing, minimising the distribution carbon footprint, and collaborating with the broader publishing community on sustainability initiatives. These efforts not only save trees but also reduce costs, aligning environmental responsibility with fiscal prudence.

Advocacy for Mental Health:

I am a firm advocate for mental health and have taken concrete steps to make a difference. As a qualified mental health first aider and counsellor, I champion Mental Health First Aid initiatives at work. I extend my commitment by serving as a mentor for the Society for Young Publishers and students at Durham University through the Leadership in Business Programme. Mental well-being is a cornerstone of a thriving community, and I am dedicated to fostering an environment that supports the mental health of our residents.

Engagement with Influencers and Change-Makers:

In my role at Bristol University Press, I collaborate with leading influencers in societal change, Members of Parliament, academics, activists, and individuals fighting for positive transformation. This experience has provided me with a unique perspective on the issues that matter most to our community, and I am eager to leverage these connections to bring about positive change on your behalf.

In conclusion:

I bring a proven track record of leadership, a commitment to sustainability and equity, and a genuine passion for the well-being of our community. I humbly ask for your support and trust in this upcoming election. Together, let's build a future that reflects the values and aspirations of our vibrant community.
