A planning story from Maids Moreton

9 May 2021

Residents in Maids Moreton have been involved in prolonged negotiations with Buckinghamshire Council (and their predecessor, AVDC) about a proposed development of 170 new houses on the  edge of their village. This is a greenfield site, close to SSSI Foxcote reservoir.

The site was designated by AVDC (now Buckinghamshire Council) as ‘suitable’ for development to be included in the Local Plan, following a planning application to develop the site submitted by David Wilson Homes in 2016.

The National Planning Policy Framework requires that all development is ‘sustainable’ and that community involvement in the process ensures a ‘collective vision’ of such sustainable growth.

Maids Moreton residents believe that neither of these fundamental principles have been adhered to at Buckinghamshire Council.  The proposed development was determined, they say, essentially on the basis of developers expressing an interest in developing the site.  Thereafter, all other guidance and regulation has been swept aside.
