Why vote Green?

Here are three key reasons to vote Green:

Most people want governments to take stronger action to tackle the climate emergency. What we do locally is vital to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change so that communities can continue to thrive. We need more than fine words from the Council – we need urgent action. From advocating for carbon reduction across all services to improving flood defences, Green Councillors work hard to put climate and environment at the top of the policy agenda.

Greens are not only about climate – we stand for social justice. The two are deeply interconnected. Climate change affects disproportionately the most vulnerable and exacerbate existing inequalities. Because we see climate issues through the lens of social justice, the solutions we propose are fair, inclusive, and prioritise those most at risk. More resilient and sustainable communities are also more equitable communities, and we work hard to improve public services, support young people and the elderly, and help local businesses to start up and thrive.

Democracy works better with a strong opposition. Better decisions are made when different ideas are brought to the table and there is meaningful debate involving a diversity of voices. Green Councillors bring a different perspective to the status quo and have a track record of holding the Council to account for its decisions.
